Worddex ("the app") is developed by Kurtis Creighton. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used.
Worddex does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. All data you create in the app — including your saved words, flashcard progress, and settings — is stored locally on your device only.
The app uses your device's camera solely to scan and recognise text on physical surfaces such as books, signs, and newspapers. Camera images are processed on-device and are never uploaded, stored remotely, or shared with any third party.
When you look up a word, a request is sent to a third-party dictionary API to retrieve the definition. This request contains only the word itself — no personal identifiers, account information, or location data are included.
If you choose to create an account, your email address is stored securely using Firebase Authentication. Your saved words and progress are stored in Firebase Firestore and are only accessible by you.
The app uses the following services:
Firebase (Google) — for optional account authentication and cloud storage of your word data. No advertising or tracking SDKs are used.
Dictionary API — to fetch word definitions. Only the searched word is transmitted.
Worddex does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The app does not require account creation to function.
Guest users: all data is stored locally on your device. Uninstalling the app will permanently delete this data. Account users: data is stored in Firebase and will persist if you reinstall the app.
If this policy changes, the updated policy will be posted at this URL with a revised date.
